About

Thunder Mountain Longhorn is an heirloom Capsicum annuum cultivar originating from the Leigongshan Mountains in Guizhou, China. The plants are compact yet extremely productive, reaching 3 to 4 feet in height and producing abundant yields of exceptionally long, slender pods. These pods measure 8 to 15 inches in length and roughly 1/4 to 1/2 inch in width, often exhibiting a curly or twisted shape reminiscent of an oversized, more flavorful Cayenne pepper. Immature pods are green, ripening to a vibrant red with thin flesh. The heat level ranges from 20,000 to 40,000 Scoville Heat Units, offering a hot but approachable spiciness accompanied by a complex, zesty flavor profile that includes subtle sweetness and notes superior to standard Cayenne varieties. This pepper is particularly valued for its traditional preparation involving sun-drying followed by smoking, which enhances its use in making seasoning powders, pepper flakes, sauces, and stir-fry dishes. Its unique appearance and prolific nature make it a favorite among gardeners seeking both ornamental and culinary value.
