About

Vedrana F1 is a large-fruited Capsicum annuum hybrid bred by Tom van der Heide at Enza Zaden Beheer B.V. in Enkhuizen and entered in the Russian State Register in 2010. Compact, semi-spreading plants reach about 80–100 cm and set uniform elongated-blocky fruit (9 × 13 cm, typically 180–250 g, 3–4 lobes) with 6–7 mm walls and glossy skin. Fruit is greenish-white to milky-green at the commercial harvest stage and turns light red to red at full biological ripeness. Enza lists it as early (about 60 days from transplant; 95–105 days from germination) with high resistance to tobacco mosaic virus (Tm:0-2). It is grown in unheated plastic houses, tunnels, and open field, including organic systems. Flesh is sweet and juicy with no bitterness, used fresh, stuffed, roasted, and in winter preserves.

Backstory

Bred by Tom van der Heide at Enza Zaden in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands, and listed on the Russian State Register in 2010 (Ukraine 2014). Enza catalogs call it a standard white blocky type in many markets. It became the dominant white babura in Croatian, Bosnian, and wider Balkan greenhouse production for early, uniform first-class fruit. Parent lines of the F1 have not been published.
