About
Ripe fruit is glossy and tapered, usually 5 to 8 cm long, with thinner walls than a grocery jalapeño. Flavor is the familiar jalapeño taste with a little extra sweetness and a faint earthy note. Use them fresh in salsa and salads, stuff them, pickle them, or dry the extras. Plants are productive, typically 60 to 100 cm tall, and handle a pot if they get full sun. Heavy rain can split the pods.
Backstory
Unknown Italian growers first kept this striped jalapeño type. Jim Duffy of Refining Fire Chiles named the US line and put Tiger Jalapeño into commerce in 2018, registering the trademark the next year. Seed reached him through European growers Jes Christiansen and Jannik Nielsen. Duffy has said the plants are grown as much for the ripening show as for the kitchen.
