Sugar Drop Orange

Sweet and fruity with clear citrus from Lemon Drop and the candy-like sweetness of Sugar Rush Peach. Heat is present but usually secondary to the sugar and citrus.

Sugar Drop Orange is a high-yielding Capsicum baccatum grown for sweet-citrus flavor rather than extreme heat. The elongated, pointed pods ripen from green to orange and usually run about 5–7 cm long. Flavor tracks the two parents: lemon-citrus from Lemon Drop and candy-like sweetness from Sugar Rush Peach, with a cayenne-level burn in the background. Plants are vigorous, frost-tender, and can become large if unpruned; staking is recommended once fruit load builds. The line is still being stabilized, so some plant-to-plant variation remains.

Sugar Drop Orange is a recent open-pollinated Capsicum baccatum cross of Sugar Rush Peach and Lemon Drop. Small Island Seed Co, a seed farm on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, describes it as an original cross made there and still being stabilized. North American sellers also circulate the line as about an F5 generation, and a yellow sibling, Sugar Drop Lemon, is sold from the same cross.
