Sarit Gat is a productive Capsicum annuum selection of a Kosovo landrace yellow chili. Plants are relatively compact yet extremely fruitful, often requiring staking under the weight of long, slender, pointed pods that ripen from green to a bright canary or lemon yellow. The fruits deliver a clean citrusy-fruity flavor with medium heat in the cayenne range and medium-thin walls that make them versatile for fresh use, drying, or processing. Selected by Austrian organic breeder Reinhild Frech-Emmelmann of ReinSaat for uniformity, color, taste, and suitability for pickling and sauce-making, it performs well in greenhouse or warm outdoor conditions.

Sarit Gat (meaning “Long Yellow”) was developed by Reinhild Frech-Emmelmann of the pioneering Austrian biodynamic seed company ReinSaat. She worked from a diverse population of yellow chilies obtained from a farmer in Kosovo, selecting over successive generations for stable canary-yellow color, uniformity, good flavor, early ripening, and suitability for processing and pickling. The resulting open-pollinated variety is now a reliable high-yielding type across European organic gardens and is gradually becoming available in North America.
