About

Ripe pods are squat and lobed, about 4 cm across, with wrinkled, ribbed skin. They start light green and finish dark orange. The flavor is sweet and citrusy under a hot habanero burn, which is why growers use it in fruit-forward sauces, salsas, and powder. Plants are bushy and heavy-set. Staking or a large pot helps when the branches load up.

Backstory

Seed catalogs trace the type to Roatán, off the north coast of Honduras. Jim Duffy of Refining Fire Chiles sold it in the U.S. as an island habanero with pumpkin-ribbed orange pods. No institute release or collection file names a breeder or a year.
