About
Purple Peach Ghost is a Capsicum chinense from Towns-End Chili & Spice in South Florida. Ripe pods are a matte peach, sometimes tan, often with leftover purple blush, and anthocyanin bleeds as purple stripes inside the fruit. Hold a ripe pod to a strong light and the internal lines show through the thin, wrinkled wall. Unripe fruit is purple to green on plants with green-and-purple foliage. Pods are elongated, slightly twisted, and 3-6 cm long with a pointed tip. Heat is superhot. Yield is described as medium to high, and seed lots can still vary a little.
Backstory
In 2017, Towns-End Chili & Spice in Royal Palm Beach, Florida found a peach-ripening plant in Purple/Red Bhut Jolokia, itself a purple-fleshed ghost type they trace to a 2013 PepperItalia variation. They kept the off-type for the color shift and the purple stripes inside the pod, worked it for several generations (listed at F5), and released it as Purple Peach Ghost / Bhut Jolokia Purple/Peach. Specialty catalogs picked it up in the 2020s. It is a color selection of Purple Ghost, not a separately named cross.
