Peppapeach

Also known as Peachadew · Peppa Peach

Peppapeach is a round Capsicum baccatum selected in South Wales by Chris Fowler of Welsh Dragon Chilli. Pods ripen peach, with thick walls and a sweet, fruity bite closer to a snack pepper than a hot sauce chile.

About 1/25 the typical heat of a Capsi Jalapeño (25,086 SHU).

About

Fruit starts green and finishes a light peach, round and gently lobed at the stem, usually under 5 cm, with smooth skin and thick flesh. The taste is sweet and juicy, with the candy-like fruit of a baccatum and only a mild sting in the placenta. Fowler's plants are heavy croppers. Growers pickle the pods, stuff them with cream cheese, or chop them into salsa. Plants want full sun, regular water, and a long season. In a cool summer they are happier in a tunnel or in pots moved under cover.

Backstory

Chris Fowler, who grows as Welsh Dragon Chilli, wanted a Peppadew-shaped pod from his Sugar Rush Peach line. He selected the round offshoot in the polytunnel at Cefn Mably Farm Park, near Cardiff, and later sold the seed as Peppapeach. A US grower who received early seed listed it as Peachadew, and both names stuck. Fowler has said he made the pepper about ten years before his 2026 posts from that same tunnel.
