NuMex Sunrise is a New Mexican-type chile from New Mexico State University that ripens from green to bright yellow. It was released for colorful ristras and still eats like a mild roasting chile.

About
Pods are long and smooth with rounded shoulders and a pointed tip, about 10 to 18 cm, ripening from green to sunshine yellow. Flesh is crunchy with the usual New Mexican chile flavor and a little sweetness. Dry them for ristras and wreaths, or eat fresh in salads, on the grill, or stuffed. Plants are bushy, about 60 to 90 cm, and set well in hot, dry weather.
Backstory
NMSU breeders Paul Bosland, Jaime Iglesias, and Steve Tanksley released Sunrise in 1988 after New Mexico growers asked for ristra chiles that were not red. Sister lines Sunset and Eclipse came out the same year. The line was selected to F5 and bulked as open-pollinated seed. Yellow pods dry without rotting, which is why they work on a ristra.
