About
Pods are cylindrical to blunt, about 11 cm long and 3.5 cm across the shoulder, with smooth dark-green skin that finishes red if left on the plant. Walls stay thick and firm, so the fruit holds up for poppers, pickles, and grilled halves. Flavor is classic jalapeño, grassy and bright, a little sweeter once red. Heat sits in the usual medium band. Compact plants mature in about 65 days from transplant and carry resistance to bacterial leaf spot and tobamovirus.
Backstory
Sakata Seed America released this hybrid from its California program around 2021. Benito Juarez is the inventor named on U.S. Patent 11,324,190, which covers the commercial hybrid sold as Megatron. Packets are remade each year from proprietary inbreds.
