About
Fruit starts green and runs through yellow and orange before it settles on scarlet red. Leave a pod on the plant long enough and it can darken toward maroon. The shape is a squat, gnarly lantern with thick juicy walls. Flavor is tropical and melon-sweet, closer to a Scotch bonnet than to the citrus punch of its yellow sibling. Heat is present but sits behind the fruit. Plants are productive in a long warm season and take about 100 days to harvest. Khang uses the pods in hot sauce, salsa, and tacos.
Backstory
Khang Starr named this red line in 2017 after the rose silhouette you get when a long-stemmed pod is flipped. It came out of the same Texas breeding project that produced Lemon Starrburst and Peach Starrkist. He still cooks with it in small-batch sauces for family and friends. Packets sold today are often non-isolated, so plants can throw some variation.
