KS Pumpkin Habanero is a small, pumpkin-shaped chinense pepper that ripens deep orange. The fruit is thick-walled and juicy, with a sweet flavor that does not taste like a typical habanero.

About
Ripe fruit is squat and ribbed like a miniature pumpkin. Pods start green, pass through yellow, and finish a deep orange, with thick walls and a juicy interior. Flavor is clean and sweet, closer to a mild Scotch bonnet fruit than to a typical habanero, and the heat stays mild. Plants load up with fruit and are easy in warm weather, but flower buds drop when days sit near 90 F in full sun. Fresh pods work raw, in a gentle salsa, or carved as tiny jack-o-lanterns.
Backstory
Khang Starr bought seed sold as regular habaneros, grew squat pumpkin-shaped pods instead, and kept selecting that look. He first showed and named the line in 2016 from his North Texas garden. Texas Hot Peppers later offered it as KS Pumpkin Habanero. An off-type that keeps coloring from orange into red is sold separately as KS Pumpkin OTR.
