Villalón’s HortScience release and TAES bulletin both name a 1981 Caloro × TAES 76064 cross, then F6 selection to the 1992 open-pollinated release. Caloro is Paul Smith’s UC Davis yellow-wax cultivar; TAES 76064 is an unreleased virus-resistant jalapeño line.
