About
Plants stay about a foot and a half tall, with white-splashed leaves and purple flowers. Pods are roughly three-quarters of an inch, crinkled and lantern-shaped. They start green, pass through a dark purple stage, and finish golden orange. The flavor is fruity. Growers pickle the pods, dry them, or use a few fresh. It is open-pollinated and does well in a pot.
Backstory
Seed Savers Exchange lists Golden Nugget as a 2007 collection donation from Philip Hoffman, who received it from Martha Perry of Pontiac, Michigan. Shop pages say she developed the variety. No source names a parent plant or a release year.
