Filius Blue is a small, bushy Capsicum annuum plant typically reaching 20–60 cm in height with attractive foliage often showing purple or blue tinges. It produces heavy yields of small ovoid to conical fruits about 1.3–2.5 cm long that start deep indigo, violet-blue, or purplish (sometimes nearly black) and ripen through orange to a fiery red. This variety is notable for two traits uncommon in peppers: fruits are hottest when young and purple-blue (within the overall 30,000–50,000 SHU range) and mellow slightly as they ripen, while flavor sweetens. The taste is straightforward and peppery with mild bell-pepper notes. It is fully edible and used in salsas, sauces, fresh dishes, and drying, though it is also prized as a colorful ornamental for pots, patios, and small gardens. It holds the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
