About
Pods are rounded and about 2 to 4 cm across. They start cream-green with purple flecks, deepen to purple, then finish peach, often with a purple blush still on the shoulders. Stems and young leaves run purple as well. The flesh is juicy and floral, with tropical fruit and a hot bite that arrives after the sweetness. Plants are bushy, usually 60 to 120 cm, and they set heavily once nights stay warm. Use the fruit fresh, in sauce or pickle brine, or dried as flakes.
Backstory
The name is the Wageningen genebank number. Barbara Pickersgill collected the line as RU 72-300 on a 1972 expedition through northeastern Brazil. Shops later nicknamed it Purple Peach and Sunset Peach. It is kept as an open-pollinated local type.
