About

The pods are conical, about 7 to 10 cm long, with thick glossy walls. They start green, pick up a nearly black blush on the sun-facing shoulder, then ripen dark red. Flavor stays in the jalapeño range, a little sweeter and juicier than the grocery type, with a mild smoky note once cooked. Plants usually stand 60 to 90 cm and crop in 75 to 85 days from transplant.

Backstory

Catalogs sell this as open-pollinated stock from Mexico and do not name a breeder. The dark skin is strongest where the fruit faces the sun. It is not Black Hungarian, and it is not the Black Magic F1 hybrid sold for extra-dark green fruit.
